Hi Larry,

Thank you for replying. You are right every dentist who has computers and an internet connection needs what you are suggesting. I think what is missing is a basic understanding of networks and security, beginning with firewalls.

Would you setup your office like your home network? Would you use a $100 hardware firewall or free software firewall to protect business data assets? Considering what's at stake is there a better way?

Kind regards,

-Tom.

Immediately I think we should be following basic HIPPA guidelines. We need to have a firewall in place. If you use a wireless network it needs security WEP settings. At a minimum you need windows logon passwords. Better yet would be passwords for the patient data.

However the real players in this are such huge companies like banks insurance companies and large retailers dentistry is likely to get swept up in whatever regs they come up with.

Hi Larry,

In your professional opinion what is the immediate implication dental professionals are exposed to? What measure are you taking to ensure data protection and privacy?

I am interested in buying one for my own use. The problem I have is that my work will not allow us to add any software to our PCs. Is there a way to take the files from the pad and view them as images in MS Office? I also have a iPAQ 4150 with a WiFi, Bluetooth, and an SD card slot, is there anyway to get the data to it?
Thanks

After further investigation this model has a tranpartency adaptor that can only do 2 PAs at a time. The model 4490 has a bigger capacity 2.7' x 9.3' the model 4990 has a full page capacity 8'x10'.

Hi Larry!

I enjoyed seeing you at the Kodak meeting last year and the Northern Virginia Dental Society meeting this year.

Ihave to tell you that this Kodak DX7590 Digital Dental Camera is the greatest! Although it is not as sophisticated as some of the other cameras out there, it is EXTREMELY simple to use. Any member of my staff can take a picture with it and it takes incredibly clear photos. I would highly recommend it.
