ViziLite

Posted on Sunday 18 June 2006

Another oral cancer diagnostic using a high tech alternative light source. This one is from Zila, see the web site here: Zila Professional Pharmaceuticals -

ViziLite Plus with TBlue630 is an oral lesion identification and marking system that is used as an adjunct to the conventional head and neck examination. It is comprised of a chemiluminescent light source (ViziLite) to improve the identification of lesions and a blue phenothiazine dye (TBlue630) to mark those lesions identified by ViziLite. ViziLitePlus with TBlue630 is designed to be used in a patient population at increased risk for oral cancer. ViziLite Plus with TBlue630 is:
Easy, safe, and non-invasive
Takes less than 3 minutes to perform

This system is different than the VELscope. ViziLite is not really an instrument but is a single use system. The cost per use is about $25 and they are sold in lots of 40.

There is an insurance code for the procedure but of course very few plans will cover it.
