From Dental Tribune International:

The future is digital and that is our focus at IDS. Everything that can go digital will go digital. It is not a question of if, but when. And the move to digital is accelerating. Our role at Henry Schein is to serve as the trusted adviser to our customers as they transition to digital technologies.

An interview with Stanley M. Bergman, Chairman of the Board and CEO of Henry Schein. Much of the article concerns the IDF in Germany and Henry Schein’s activities in Europe.

The big take away for me was the acknowledgement that the future will be digital. That means everything will be digital and ideally it will all integrate and work together. As the largest dental industry vendor Henry Schein has great influence and could help shift the industry from stand alone proprietary systems to integrated interoperable systems. It is ridiculous that I can not transfer a digital patient record from Dentrix to Eaglesoft or visa versa.

The other important concept is that everything will be digital. That will be standard. It will not be as we have now where we add a digital overlay to a paper or film based system Everything will be digitally native. Dentists and dental team members who learn to be practice technologists and think digital first will find the future exciting and rewarding. Those who still see technology as a burden, a cumbersome overlay on a paper system will be left in the dust.
