I was struck by something Andrew wrote in Anti Buzz.
The common focus in tech speculation is what is new. What’s the next thing? What will you do that you’ve never done before? This misses a crucial aspect of how technology changes our lives. A more relevant question might be; What just became obsolete? What will you never do again?
We have seen this so many times in the last decade and it is accelerating. When I first looked at the Internet I did not think to myself, “I will never read a paper newspaper again.” yet that is what is happening.
In dentistry the CEREC Omnicam is another great example. After seeing it in action I know the time is coming very quickly when I will never take an impression again.
