Facebook Unveils New Friends Lists

I read about this supposed big advance at several online tech sites but don’t see how it will make much of a difference. Either Facebook is just for true close friends, which means it has little or no use as a marketing system or it is a broad system to contact hundreds of people you really don’t know. In that case it might be a good marketing tool except people will just start ignoring the messages as they do most advertising.

Facebook on Tuesday unveiled a new friends list feature that will let you more easily categorize groups of friends.

You can create your own lists and manage what friends appear in them, but Facebook will also automatically group people into work, school, family, and city lists based on the information they provide in their profile.
