The Nomad Pro handheld x-ray system has been selected as a finalist in the 2012 Medical Design Excellence Awards competition. The MDEA is the medical device industry’s premier design awards competition and is the only awards program that exclusively recognizes contributions and advances in the design of medical products. The winners will be announced on May 23, 2012.

From the MDEA Website:

2012 FINALIST: NOMAD Pro handheld x-ray system, manufactured by Aribex Inc. (Orem, UT). Entry submitted by IQMS (Paso Robles, CA). NOMAD Pro is an advanced, handheld intraoral x-ray for dental professionals that can easily be used in or out of an office setting. Lightweight and rechargeable, NOMAD Pro helps provide underserved patients access to care in remote humanitarian programs. Supply and design credit to Voltage Multipliers Inc. (Visalia, CA), and Ecomass Technologies (Austin, TX).

I have been a big fan of the Nomad for years. Sadly there are still a handful of states that have yet to approve the Nomad for general use. Maybe this recognition along with support from local dentists will help convince reluctant regulators that Nomad is safe and provides a service far beyond old wall mounted units.
