The Dr. Bicuspid (registration required) article linked below quotes industry experts predicting that digital impressions will soon become mainstream. I fully support the idea, in fact I think digital impressions are far superior to goo impressions in many many ways. I think they should become mainstream, but am aware of both history and human nature. To quote Bill Gates, a guy who knows something about technological development,
“We always overestimate the change that will occur in the next two years and underestimate the change that will occur in the next ten.”
However, even if digital impressions may not go mainstream in a few years the fact is there are many reasons to start using the technology now and as an early adopter you will have a distinct advantage over those who lag behind.
…the era of dental CAD/CAM has arrived, and the market is poised for significant growth, according to Michael DiTolla, DDS, director of clinical education at Glidewell Laboratories, and Bob Steingart, president of SensAble Technologies, two companies that provide digital impressioning products and services for dental labs and dental practitioners.
