From Politico:

The FDA and the Brookings Institution Monday released a blueprint for building a $250 million medical device surveillance system over the next seven years. The effort would combine with the FDA Sentinel Initiative and the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute’s national research network…Medical Device Postmarket Surveillance System — a “component of the emerging national health infrastructure,” according to the report. The plan includes use of a unique device identifier for medical devices that would be incorporated into electronic health records.
