Dr. Bicuspid article (registration required) on new caries detection system using infared.

When compared with bitewing radiography, NIR transillumination demonstrated very good sensitivity and specificity, noted the study authors…”Bitewing radiography for the detection of approximal caries in dentine has high specificity … but the sensitivity … is highly dependent on the extent of caries damage to the dentine,”

Another new system that is awaiting FDA approval for use in the US is the Canary system. If this doees everything the developers say it does it will revolutionize caries diagnosis.
