Good Bugs Bad Bugs

Why do some patients have poor home care, visible plaque and no decay while others try to take great care of their teeth and still get tooth decay? The first answer is, life’s not fair. The second answer is dental caries is not just about plaque in general but is the result of specific bacteria, “bad bugs” and ph levels.

I saw this high tech diagnostic device at the Townie meeting. It is a simple chairside test that can give you a specific number to determine the level of “bad” bacteria in a patient’s mouth and how susceptible they are to decay.

The CariScreen Caries Susceptibility Test is a simple 1-minute chair-side bacterial test for assessing patients’ caries risk.
