From Kevin Williamson:
The future is, and will always be, unknowable. The future isn’t a foreign country, but an alien planet. Sandberg-Diment in 1985 did no worse predicting the future of technology than any of us would do today.
The linked article makes some good points about the fallibility of predicting the technological future. I share his enjoyment of looking back on classic sci fi from the 50s and 60s and seeing what they got right and what hey missed. The point is that we are inevitably stuck in our current reality. He then relates technological change to social change. Interesting and worth reading.
