From Wikipedia:

Teledentistry is the use of information technology and telecommunications for dental care, consultation,[1] education, and public awareness (compare telehealth and telemedicine).

I think this is too basic. We are already doing remote diagnosis of digital radiographs and new digital diagnostic devices will continue to revolutionize how we diagnose. Patients can send smart phone photos to the dentist for an evaluation. 3D printing allows us to design a restoration in California and have it printed chairside in New York. Teledentistry already is a lot more than consultation and education. In the near future it will be everything from examination to diagnosis to treatment.
