If you just didn’t have to pay greedy doctors medical costs would be under control. Wrong:
Last week, the National Commission on Physician Payment Reform released its recommendations, calling for the elimination of fee-for-service healthcare within the next 5 years.
The linked article points out the large portion of medical costs that go to institutions especially hospitals and administrators. There is also significant market distortion from third party payment systems which both increase utilization and add administrative costs. Finally there is the cost of litigation including defensive medicine. Any health care reform that does not include tort reform is not serious.
