Electronic Prescriptions for Controlled Substances

The link below is to a DEA site with all the latest on e-prescriptions for controlled substances, including an FAQ section for prescribers. As you would imagine there are lots of issues and limitations. The rules states that the prescribing software must meet the requirements of the rule. I could not determine if any dental applications are currently acceptable. It’s a start. 

The rule revises DEA regulations to provide practitioners with the option of writing prescriptions for controlled substances electronically. The regulations also permit pharmacies to receive, dispense, and archive these electronic prescriptions.
