One of the pe0ple attending my session in Delaware showed me this. It is a mini film digitizer. You place a single film in the tray and it will convert it to a digital image. It connects to the computer via USB

I have not tried it but the user in Delaware said she had one and it worked fine, for what it did. That is digitize a single film. It would not be useful if you wanted to digitize a full mouth or panoramics but for the occasional film that might come in from an outside source it is a clever solution.

They are for sale on e-Bay for just over $100. Search for dental x-ray scanner.
