From the NYT. Is this what HIPAA privacy is about?
“I’ve had patients ask me, ‘Where’s your baby board?’ ” said Dr. Mark V. Sauer, the director of the office, which is affiliated with Columbia University Medical Center. “We just tell them the truth, which is that we no longer post them because of concerns over privacy.”
As is too often the case when the government gets involved common sense is replaced by layers and layers of rules. Of course we have a professional obligation to protect our patients confidentiality but reams of signed forms and fear of photos has little to do with actual patient confidentiality.
