Data breach of Phoenix dental office impacts more than 7,500 patients

The linked article is confused. It states the breach is “ongoing”. That seems unlikely. The mitigation may be ongoing however I imagine the breach is done. It also states that OCR “ordered” the office to inform patients. Again that is unlikely,informing patients is a standard part of mitigation.

There is no information on how the breach occurred. A search of the HHS health care data breach reporting site, often referred to as “The Wall of Shame” does not have the office listed.

If in fact 7500 records were exposed the office could face a fine of over two million dollars. Devastating.
