police-Good News…The office of Civil Rights has more money to conduct random audits of medical and dental offices.

The covered entities are being randomly selected from a national provider index database, with the aim of even geographic distribution and mix of different kinds of covered entities, including physicians’ offices, dentists to healthcare plans,

The short version is that random audits are now happening, and the Office for Civil Rights has been very vocal about auditing private dental and medical practices.  The top things they are looking for are:

  • Risk Assessment
  • Updated Business Associate Agreements
  • Updated Notice of Privacy Practices
  • Updated Policies and Procedures
  • Computer and storage media security
  • Transmission Security
