Corona Pandemic Security

If you are working from home because of the Corona Pandemic you should be using a VPN.

VPN stands for Virtual Private Network. It is a secure portal that hides your internet communications from others , including your ISP (Internet Service Provider).  From Wikipedia: A virtual private network (VPN) extends a private network across a public network and enables users to send and receive data across shared or public networks as if their computing devices were directly connected to the private network.

You should consider a VPN for all your Internet use, however if you are now using the Internet to connect to the office from home it is a must. You can ask your office IT provider to recommend and set one up or look here for a list of the top VPNs from PC Magazine. I use the one that comes packaged with my Norton 360.

You can be working from home by conducting tele-dentistry consultations. If you do you then need to enter the visit in the patients chart. You can then create and send in a claim all from the security and comfort of your home computer.

You or your team may also use this enforced down time to run reports and do basic data base management that you never seem to have the time for during normal business hours. For example, take the time to purge (or inactivate) all the patients in your data base that you no longer see. This should also be done using a VPN.
