In the not-too-distant future, orthopedic surgeons may simply draw new cartilage inside your knee, using a 3D printing, stem-cell-extruding device called the “BioPen.”
Imagine “drawing” new bone or gingiva around a periodontally hopeless tooth. Or “drawing” a filling on a tooth surface. A filling that will actually turn into enamel.
A future dental visit might go like this:
A scanning device like The Canary will detect changes in enamel density. The dentist will remove the diseased tissue with a hard tissue laser similar to Solea. The dentist will then draw in a stem cell filling that becomes actual tooth.
What would this futuristic dental visit NOT include?
- No explorer
- No x-rays
- No anesthesia
- No drill
- No etching, bonding and filling
The future is coming and it will be amazing!
