Researchers at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) … have developed a wearable robotic device that could someday add two strong fingers to your hand…
The device straps onto the wrist and two additional and rather large, actuator-powered fingers sit on either side of the hand. A special glove with sensors on the thumb, index and middle fingers drives an algorithm that allows the robot digits to move in concert with the wearer’s real fingers.
The future dental use for this is obvious. I have always said the ideal dental assistant would have four hands. With these new robot fingers either the dentist or the assistant could do more with less.
